![]() I bought Super Bullet Break for the Switch Blind. So yeah, everything I've seen of Eastward ranged from decent to excellent, if only it wasn't for the awful nonsensical writing. And the worst part, from what I've read the big questions the game raises near the beginning never actually get answered and the plot seemingly drifts off into a convoluted mess. Sam is cute and always cheerful (again to the point where it gets ridiculous), Alva the nerdy overexcited scientist who can't cook. Speaking of which, there is a ton of dialogue in Eastward and yet somehow the characters are very one-note John is the silent protagonist trope to a point where he often just feels entirely lifeless, nearly devoid of personality. You would imagine even an amateur could write more believable than this. And so strolling through a forest, fighting goofy looking enemies and then arriving in a factory that produces humans, only to harvest them off later through an all-consuming poison go hand in hand, with the aforementioned place hardly even eliciting any reaction from the main characters. As if the writers just couldn't decide if they wanted their game to be for all ages or more mature audiences. The story sets up an interesting premise and a decent mystery, but partially in Chapter 2 and especially Chapter 3 there is so much ultimately pointless meandering that also feels completely tonally inconsistent. Decent gameplay too.īut the writing is honestly all over the place. The game is beautiful to look at, just oozing charm and atmosphere, great music. Got to the end of Chapter 3 and, after reading some Steam reviews, decided to leave it at that. r/Games has a Discord server!
